Looking at the original article by W H Nicholls in the Australian Orchid Review, 7, 3 p40, 1942 the Cymbidium canaliculatum forma barrettii is described as the base of the sepals being marked "red". To accompany the text there is a diagram showing this "new at the time" form on page 38. The diagram shows the position of the "red" markings.

If the plant shown here for identification is an album (no red/purple pigmentation) form of the species then I believe it is actually Cymbidium canaliculatum f. viridiflorum D.P.Banks, Austral. Orchid Rev. 77(4): 25 (2012).

actually what it says (1942)...similar in form to the type, but in colour, wholly pale greenish-yellow, the labellum white. In some flowers the outer segments are markered...

Thank you Patricia,

You're quite right. Stated in the description there is "one" plant and that some of the flowers are marked red. This precludes it from being an "albino". Below at the link is the drawing that accompanies the description of Cymbidium canaliculatum var. barrettii, Australian Orchid Review, 7, 3 p38, 1942. I've noticed that some authors don't mention the drawing in this issue of AOR but go on to discuss the similar "unlabelled" drawing in W. H. Nicholls, The Complete Edition of Orchids of Australia. It makes my wonder if some copies of that issue of AOR are missing that plate or if because of the cluttered nature of the plate they have missed it.
But there is no doubt that Nicholls didn't describe and publish an "albino" Cym canaliculatum.
